Bike Week with Bicycle Queensland
Bicycle Queensland’s Bike Week was a success – in particular the Cycling Events on 22nd of March which attracted close to 4000 cyclists. There were top range carbon fibre road bikes, mountain bikes, tandems, a unicycle, recumbants, and even a Free Radical, and of course there were kickbikes! Four to be exact.
Lyn Armstrong cruised along, making a tonne of friends and promoting the sport of Footbiking over the 35km Great Brisbane Bike Ride, while Steve Lunniss completed the 55km part of the course.
Alan Stewart, Bruce Cook and Deborah Stewart completed the Mt Coot-tha Challenge of 70km which included the Mt Coot-tha ascent. Alan totally blasted his previous record by a minute and 8 seconds for an Australian Ascent Record of 13mins and 59secs. Well done Alan! Your ascent was more than 30 seconds faster than the average male road cyclist’s time. Deborah also became the first woman to complete the Mt Coot-tha Challenge on a footbike / kickbike / scooter and now holds the record of longest distance by a female as well as the fastest ascent.
Excellent kick-biking skills Deb!! What a challenge, but you were up for it. Mt.Coot-ha is no easy ascent. Well done!!
